Columbus Blue Jackets Have Mike Babcock Coaching The Bunch?

I didn’t realize that back on July 1, the Columbus Blue Jackets hired Mike Babcock as their ninth head coach in Franchise history. It’s hard to believe that they have had just nine to be honest.

Ken Hitchcock and John Tortorella preceded Babcock, and I wanted to learn more about the man himself and what makes him such an intriguing figure in the hockey fraternity.

What I found was some interesting stuff.

It’s interesting to learn how he coaches and that he’s rubbed some players the wrong way, namely Jonah Franzen in Detroit. Also, Babcock was fired in Toronto for a ‘toxic work environment’ after such stunts as making Mitch Marner list his teammates in terms of who has the worst work ethic, then revealing it to teammates publicly.

Moreover, it sounds like Babcock wants to learn from his mistakes. Of course, all coaches tend to say these things upon first being hired.

It will be interesting to see the chin go to work in Columbus behind the bench.
